Can you feel the sunshine?
Is summer just around the corner? I really enjoy the
sunny seasons--especially since I moved to Minnesota with cold
winters.
I grew up with parents who enjoyed gardening and I
guess the bug was passed to me.
Flowers make me happy no matter what the season.
All hubby has to do after a tiff is bring me
flowers--especially live ones--and all is right with the
world. :)

Do you garden or love someone who does?
Did you get flowers as a gift?
Was there a wedding in the family with a outdoor floral
theme?
Or maybe you will just take a photo op trip to the
local plant nursery with the kids?
Well, get ready to learn to make the PERFECT page
border for your flower power pages. All you need are the
following supplies.
|
|
Materials |
|
*1 sheet
of 8 1/2 x 11-inch white or brown cardstock,
or wood patterned paper - this will be the
frame of your trellis |
|
*1 sheet
of sky/blue background paper in the size of
your choice |
|
*adhesive |
|
*scissors |
|
*ruler |
|
*assorted leaf and flower punches or
stickers |

|
Step One:
Cut your 8.5x11 trellis frame paper in half the long way
with scissors or paper trimmer. |
|
|
|
Step Two:
Fold the trellis paper from 4 1/2 x 11 over to 2 1/4 x
11. You should have a long skinny folded piece of
paper as in the picture to the left, and the picture
with step 3. |
|
|
|
Step
Three:
Keep the paper folded and use your ruler and draw
slanted lines on the folded side of the trellis that
measure 2 inches long.
The angle should be about 45 degrees as in the
picture to the left.
They should be about a quarter of an inch apart. The
picture shows how it should look after cutting.
|
|
|
|
Note: If you work
with 12 x 12 papers, or even on some 8.5 x 11, you may
want to open up the folded trellis for a wider overall
lattice trellis frame. Opening the fold will make
the trellis 4.5 x 11 inches. The slots will then
look like "V"s. You can then proceed with the following
steps just as the narrow trellis is made. |
|
|
|
Step 4:
They should look like the paper in the picture all the
way to the left.
Remember it is every other flap or slot--not each
one. Adhesive lightly.
Use enough to secure the flaps down at the V's
but not so much that you have 'extra' which can get
messy between the lattice. |
|
|
|
Step Five:
Place your folded trellis border onto your choice of
background blue paper.
|
|
|
|
Step Six:
Now decide if you want to use punched pieces or sticker
flowers. Both can be very attractive on the
trellis. Use any type of floral or leaf punch such
as those shown below.
|
|
|
If you want to use
stickers, I suggest a leafy Ivy or plan greenery as well as
your more colorful flowers. I have used ivy stickers
from Mrs. Grossman, the Gifted Line, and Crafts, Etc. on my
brown trellis with Mrs. Grossman floral stickers. Mixing
and matching stickers is fine as well as the style is fairly
similar. It is all up to you... |
|
|
Step Seven:
Add your punch art greenery or sticker art greenery
first. You can have the greenery minimal as in the ferns
on the white trellis along the bottom or throughout the
trellis as on the brown trellis. If you add greenery
throughout the trellis, try to evenly distribute each
type and color evenly around the piece.
|
|
|
|
Step Eight:
Now place the flowers on wherever you prefer on
your lattice framework.
You can use a multi-color floral effect or stick
within a specific flower color range.
|
|
|
|
As you can see
this flower and trellis border idea can be used more
than once and still look completely different. This
lattice trellis would be lovely on a wedding page,
garden theme party, or any number of floral theme
events.
Take the camera out to the garden, the rose bed,
or the nature center and get some good shots.
And while the season lasts...enjoy the power of
the flower. |
